Bio
Kalil Mitchell is a Bay Area artist raised on the ancestral land of the Ohlone, Amah Mutsun and Awaswas peoples, in present day Santa Cruz, CA.
Kalil developed a deep reverence and love for the living world at a very young age, collecting many insect and plant species growing up, and filling multiple sketchbooks with scientific illustrations and notes as an elementary student.
Following a natural curiosity in ecology and microbiology, whilst also developing an obsession with drawing and painting, and later printmaking, Kalil eventually found her niche in undergraduate studies exploring the relationship between ecology, self, and spirituality within a pictorial practice.
She now researches the intersection of these topics as an MFA student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where her current work is primarily based.
